PPC Search Engines
The Major PPC Providers
Google™ AdWords and Yahoo!® Search Marketing (formerly known as Overture) are the two biggest providers of paid search, or pay-per-click (PPC) listings. Google™ currently provides its paid listings to AOL®, EarthLink™, and AskJeeves™ searchers. Yahoo! currently provides listings to Yahoo!®, MSN® and others, including AltaVista™ and Excite®. In addition to placing listings within specific search engine results pages (SERPS), both systems have the ability to provide "contextual placements" within a variety of websites, thereby increasing ad exposure exponentially.
Both providers provide methods to measure conversion as well as the obvious click-throughs and costs associated with specific listings. Contextual placement can be turned on or off with the push of a button. Both also provide a choice of managed or “self serve” accounts. Many private SEM companies specialize in providing campaign creation, monitoring and reporting, as well as training for these aspects of PPC campaign management.

Other PPC Providers
Please note that Instant Position does not endorse or guarantee the performance of any PPC providers. We are in the business of ensuring that our visitors know what is out there.
Although this is not an exhaustive list, other PPC providers are everywhere. One particularly popular PPC service for the B2B sector is Business.com's product, which provides listings within search engines and websites that are more likely to be visited by professionals seeking business products or services. Other "mainstream" PPC products include those offered by:
- FindWhat.com
- Enhance Interactive
- looksmart
- Search123.com
- Goclick.com
- 7Search
- Kanoodle
- Findology
- Lycos "InSite"
- ePilot
This is just a few of the over 500 search engines that offer a PPC model advertising solution, but it is fair to say that if you are represented in all of them, you have a good chance of at least having your URL displayed to a targeted audience.
3rd Party PPC Providers
Recently, companies have started to reach agreements with particular search engines to guarantee placement within the top three positions within sponsored listings. We define these as third party providers. One such company is Placement Power , which charges a flat monthly fee for their services and guarantees placement of your site within top sponsored listings within 7-10 days. This may be an option to consider if you find that PPC listings for your terms are already dominated by many competitors.
If you have questions, or you would like an analysis of a current campaign, please email a report containing at least one month’s worth of statistics from your account. We will provide a free initial analysis of the account performance.
